ITAQ focuses on energy efficiency, reduction of greenhouse gases and pollution emissions, and promotes renewable energy sources in the ground transportation sector. As described in its Strategic Plan 2005-2010, ITAQ is mainly involved in the following three areas of activity:
Hybrid and Electric Traction
Propulsion method powered wholly or partly by electricity motorization. The power can come from an embedded source (battery, motor/generator, fuel cell, etc.) or an external source (overhead wires, rails).
Biofuels
Embedded energy generation or propulsion method using an internal combustion engine but with fuel made wholly or partly from renewable non-fossil sources (e.g. biodiesel made from recycled cooking oil, cellulosic ethanol, biogas).
Energy Efficiency
Technology designed to improve the overall energy performance of vehicles, such as reducing weight, improving aerodynamics, optimizing combustion, smart itinerary management, driving assistance, etc.
